Heavens Above review: Julie O’Donnell
OUR modern-day western culture tends to associate story telling with childhood, with “telling tales” having a connotation of betrayal, yet the passing on of legends orally remains embedded in so many other cultures.
Heavens Above at Taunton Brewhouse showcased the acting talents of Michael Loader and Rebecca Smart (aka Wild Words), who spun a web of words of weirdness and wonder, luring the audience with glee glinting in their eyes.
This was no slow immersion into the allegorical world of the skies, stars and earth, as from the off there was audience participation in African song (Michael proving he is no mean musician on a variety of instruments).
Billed as story telling for adults, it appealed equally to my 10-year old companion. Do check out the performances of Wild Words later in the year and go along with an open mind. At only £8 per ticket, a different but agreeable way to spend an evening.
